NLP Reading Material
NLP Reading Material

Recently I was mooching around WH Smiths at the Railway Station and noticed the plethora of NLP books which were marketed as supposedly top sellers. Whilst it's good to see NLP going mainstream, you won't find many (if any - I've checked) of the quality specialist NLP books at WH Smiths, Waterstones etc.

For those of you that like to read quality specialist books which simply aren't available in the high street stores, I would recommend visiting
Anglo American Book Company who also support the excellent NLP Conference.

Below is a list of some of the NLP books I have read and which you might find to be of value (along with others). To help you determine which might be right for you, I've grouped them into NLP developmental stages.

Pre-Practitioner course material:
  • NLP Workbook - Joseph O'Connor
  • Introducing NLP - John Seymour
  • NLP for Dummies - The Workbook
  • The Severn Habits of Highly Effective People - Steven R Covey. Not strictly NLP, yet an outstanding book that provides great insight into many of the principles that underpin NLP
Practitioner Level material includes:
  • The Users Manual for the Brain (Volume One) - Michael Hall
  • The Spirit Of NLP - Michael Hall
  • NLP The Technology of Achievement - Steve Andreas + Charles Faulkner
  • Timeline Therapy and The Basis of Personality - Tad James and Wyatt Woodsmall
  • Richard Bandlers Guide to Transformation - (Includes some Master Practitioner level material)
Master Practitioner Level includes:
  • The Sourcebook of Magic - Michael Hall
  • The Users manual for the Brain (Volume Two) - Michael hall
  • Whispering in the Wind - John Grinder
  • Words that Change Minds - Shelle Rose Charvet
  • More Magic of Metaphor - Nick Owen
  • Turtles all the Way Down - John Grinder & Judith De Lozier
  • Modeling with NLP - Robert Dilts
Post Master Practitioner Development Material includes:
  • Spiral Dynamics - Don Edward Beck; Christopher C. Cowan
  • Towards and Integral Vision - Peter McNabb
  • Integral Life Practice - Ken Wilber; Terry Pattern; Adam Leonard; Marco Morelli
  • Encyclopedia of Systemic NLP - Robert Dilts. Perhaps the ultimate reference material in two encyclopedias. 1600 pages and a £270 investment.
  • Much, much more at all levels.
Early NLP Reference Reading Material (shown below) might not be to everyones tastes yet is non the less important to those that like to understand the origins of NLP and the thinking that initiated the field. Include:
  • Frogs into Princes
  • The Structure of Magic 1
  • The structure of Magic 2
  • Reframing
  • Turtles all the way down
  • Whispering in the Wind
You are welcome to view any of these books (and many, many more) at the Walsall / Birmingham North / Black Country NLP Practice Group.

Note 1: You can buy all the books and all the knowledge, yet their potential will only be realised when you act upon and apply that learning in the real world. NLP is a field orientated around the real world of skill application and enhancing the quality of the results you experience. 'Don't just learn it and think it,,, engage the world we are an integral component off and apply it, live it, and love life'.

Note 2: As you continue developing, changing and integrating the plethora of competencies, insights and understandings from this vastly eclectic field, you will come to develop your own unique insight into the structure of human experience. As you do so, just remember this,,,, Its all subjective. Your results in life are the consequence of the projection, of your perception. I.E. You reap what you sow and and you sow what you perceive. Perception is but a construct. And that perception is owned and managed by nobody other than you. if a problem is nothing other than a constructed perception, the solution must therefore be nothing other than a 'different' perception. One of the gifts of NLP, is an insight into the construct and management of perception. Be that yours, or someone else's.

Enjoy your reading :)
